| Hard Disk Drives |
| Q: Is it possible to install my 2.5" Toshiba Hard Drive into my desktop or tower system? |
| A: Yes, by using a HDD mounting kit, you can install a Toshiba 2.5" drive into your desktop or tower system. Contact your local computer supplier for kit availability. |
| Q: Should my 2.5" Hard Drive be configured as a Master Drive or Slave Drive? |
| A: If you are using a single drive configuration, set jumpers to Master. If you are using a two drive configuration, you can set the drive as either the Master or Slave, depending on what the other drive is set at. In most situations, Toshiba's Hard Drives are shipped with no jumper present, making it a master drive. |
| Q: My system is not able to recognize all available capacity on my Hard Disk Drive. What do I need to do to utilize the complete hard drive? |
| A: There are some systems that are unable to recognize the new larger Hard Drives on the market. 3rd party software is available that breaks the "capacity barrier". A suggestion is Disk Manager DiskGo by Ontrack. Check with your local computer/software supplier for availability or contact the software manufacturer. | |

| DVD Drives |
| Q: Do I need to install special drivers for my DVD-RAM? |
| A: Yes, in most cases your DVD-RAM will come with a special software driver called "Write DVD". This must be installed in addition to a SCSI host adapter driver. Updates to "Write DVD" can be downloaded from Software Architects, Inc.'s website. You can also purchase "Write DVD" at their website. |
| Q: How do I play DVD movies on my computer? |
| A: You must have a DVD/MPEG-2 card and the appropriate software installed on your computer system in order to view DVD movies. Contact your local computer supplier to purchase Toshiba's REALmagic DVD/MPEG-2 kit or comparable DVD/MPEG-2 kit. |
| Q: Can I install a DVD-RAM in a Apple Power Mac G3? |
| A: Yes, but you must have a SCSI card installed (i.e. Apple Ultra SCSI PCI card) and a SCSI software driver. You will also need DVD software. We recommend Software Architects, Inc.'s (SAI) "CD/DVD Drive TuneUp" software package which can be purchased at SAI's web site. |

| CD-RW/DVD-ROM Drives |
| Q: I have a SD-R1202 CD-RW/DVD-ROM drive. How can I determine if I need to update the firmware? |
| A: Toshiba has created a tool that will test your drive to determine if the updated firmware is required. Visit our SD-R1202 Firmware Upgrade Information Page for additional information and to download the firmware test tool. |
| Q: Do I need to install a special device driver for my CD-RW/DVD-ROM drive? |
| A: No, you do not need to install any software device drivers. Microsoft '95, '98, 2000, WinMe, XP and NT are shipped with ATAPI device drivers installed that work correctly with Toshiba's CD-ROM-RW/DVD-ROM drive. After installing your CD-RW/DVD-ROM drive, and rebooting your computer, the system should recognize the CD-RW/DVD-ROM drive. |
| Q: How do I play DVD movies on my computer? |
| A: In order to play DVD movies on your computer using your CD-RW/DVD-ROM drive, you must use a 3rd party software which is included with the CD-RW/DVD-ROM kit. There are 3rd party DVD/MPEG-2 cards available that also allow you to view DVD movies. |
| Q: Can I install a CD-RW/DVD-ROM in an Apple Power Mac? |
| A: No, not at this time. |
| Q: Can I copy a DVD-Movie Disc? |
| A: You will not be able to duplicate a DVD movie using the CD-RW/DVD-ROM drive. Most movies are encrypted and copyright protected. |
| Q: I have a CD-ROM and a CD-RW/DVD-ROM installed in my system. Why can I only listen to audio CDs from one of my drives? |
| A: In order to listen to audio CDs using your CD-ROM or CD-RW/DVD-ROM, you must connect the drive to your sound card using a special audio cable. Most sound cards only provide one audio cable connection; therefore only one of your drives can be connected to the sound card. In order to listen to CD's from both drives, you could use a sound card that has two audio cable connectors, install two sound cards or purchase a CD-ROM Audio Splitter. |
| Q: What is Regional Coding and can I change the regional code on my drive? |
| A: Region Protection Coding (RPC) of DVD Discs is a feature that is supported on DVD Players and is used with DVD-Video Discs (i.e. movies). Currently, the motion picture industry has divided the world into different regional "zones." These regions or "zones" correlate to the regional markets into which the motion picture industry releases movies. |
| Simply put, RPC Codes are placed on Movie Discs marketed throughout the world based on the region of the world where they are being sold. These RPC codes help to control and prevent the pirating of new release movies into other motion picture market regions prior to their true release dates within those markets. The CD-RW/DVD-ROM drive supports the current RPC phase 2 industry specifications. |
| The drive's regional code is set to the code found on the first DVD video disc that you load into your drive. The regional code will change if another DVD video disc from another region is inserted. Your CD-RW/DVD-ROM allows the regional code to change four times. The fifth time a different regional coded DVD is inserted, your drive will be permanently set to that regional code. | | |

| Device Drivers |
| Q: Where do I find a device driver for my Toshiba CD-ROM or DVD? |
| A: Microsoft Operating Systems are shipped with SCSI and ATAPI device drivers installed that work correctly with all of Toshiba's CD-ROM and DVD drives. If you are installing a Toshiba SCSI drive, you must use a device driver that was written for the SCSI host adapter you have installed in your system. If your system can not locate the driver during installation, contact the manufacturer of your SCSI card for a copy of the correct driver. You can also check out the Device Drivers page for help in locating SCSI device drivers. |
| Q: I'm looking for a DOS/Windows 3.1 driver for a Toshiba SCSI CD-ROM/DVD-ROM, is there such a driver? |
| A: Windows 3.1 does not require any special drivers. If the DOS driver is installed correctly and recognized under DOS, Windows will see it. The device drivers that you are requesting have to match with the "SCSI" controller card you are using. For example, if you are using "Adaptec" controller you must use an "Adaptec" driver. Check out the Device Drivers page in the Services & Support area for more information and links to interface card manufacturers. |
| Q: I have been trying to find the latest DOS/Windows 3.1 device driver for my ATAPI CD-ROM or DVD-ROM. Where can I find the device driver? |
| A: A DOS/Windows 3.1 ATAPI driver can be downloaded from the Device Drivers page. The file name is ATAPI.EXE. |
